500 Sunscreens Analyzed by Independent Group from Dr. Ann Wigmore

The Environmental Working Group has updated their annual guide to safe sunscreens. In this report, only 8 percent passed the EWG tests for dangerous contents and truth in labeling. Fully 92 percent are rated “not recommended.”
Again, like I’ve said for years, the healthiest, best sunlight is natural sunlight – and our bodies need it for optimal health.

What Is A Subluxation?

What is a Subluxation and what does it do to me?
First, the simple explanation.
In simplest terms, a subluxation (a.k.a. Vertebral Subluxation) is when one or more of the bones of your spine (vertebrae) move out of position and create pressure on, or irritate spinal nerves. Spinal nerves are the nerves that come out from between each of the bones in your spine. This pressure or irritation on the nerves then causes those nerves to malfunction and interfere with the signals traveling over those nerves.
How does this affect you?  Your nervous system controls and coordinates all the functions of your body. If you interfere with the signals traveling over nerves, parts of your body will not get the proper nerve messages and will not be able to function at 100% of their innate abilities. In other words, some part of your body will not be working properly.
It is the responsibility of the Doctor of Chiropractic to locate subluxations, and reduce or correct them. This is done through a series of chiropractic adjustments specifically designed to correct the vertebral subluxations in your spine. Chiropractors are the only professionals who undergo years of training to be the experts at correcting subluxations.

Now The Detailed One.

Subluxations are really a combination of changes going on at the same time. These changes occur both in your spine and throughout your body. For this reason chiropractors often refer to vertebral subluxations as the "Vertebral Subluxation Complex", or "VSC" for short.
In the VSC, various things are happening inside your body simultaneously. These various changes, known as "components," are all part of the vertebral subluxation complex. Chiropractors commonly recognize five categories of components present in the VSC. These five are:

The osseous (bone) component is where the vertebrae are either out of position, not moving properly, or are undergoing physical changes such as degeneration. This component is sometimes known as kinesiopathology.

The Nerve Component is the malfunctioning of the nerve. Research has shown that only a small amount of pressure on spinal nerves can have a profound impact on the function of the nerves. This component is scientifically known as neuropathology.

The Muscle Component is also involved. Since the muscles help hold the vertebrae in place, and since nerves control the muscles themselves, muscles are an integral part of any VSC. In fact, muscles both affect, and are affected by the VSC. This component is known as myopathology.

The Soft Tissue Component is when you have misaligned vertebrae and pressure on nerves resulting in changes in the surrounding soft tissues. This means the tendons, ligaments, blood supply, and other tissues undergo changes. These changes can occur at the point of the VSC or far away at some end point of the affected nerves. This component is also known as histopathology.

The Chemical Component is when all these components of the VSC are acting on your body, and therefore causing some degree of chemical changes. These chemical changes can be slight or massive depending on what parts of your body are affected by your subluxations. This component is often known as biochemical abnormalities.
Chiropractors have known about the dangers of subluxations for over one hundred years. Today, more scientific evidence is showing the dangers of subluxations and the health benefits of correcting them. To be truly healthy, it is vital that your nervous system be functioning free of interference from subluxations. Our goal is to allow your body to return itself to the highest level of health possible by correcting VSC.  Chiropractors are the ONLY health professionals trained in the detection, location, and correction of the VSC.

What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?

D.D. Palmer founded Chiropractic in the 1890’s and his son B.J. Palmer helped to expand it in the early 20th century.

Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts which is based upon the understanding that good health depends, in part, upon a normally functioning nervous system (especially the spine, and the nerves extending from the spine to all parts of the body).

"Chiropractic" comes from the Greek word Chiropraktikos, meaning "effective treatment by hand." Chiropractic stresses the idea that the cause of many disease processes begins with the body's inability to adapt to its environment.

It looks to address these diseases not by the use of drugs and chemicals, but by locating and adjusting a musculoskeletal area of the body which is functioning improperly. The conditions which doctors of chiropractic address are as varied and as vast as the nervous system itself. All
chiropractors use a standard procedure of examination to diagnose a patient's condition and arrive at a course of treatment. Doctors of chiropractic use the same time-honored methods of consultation, case history, physical examination, laboratory analysis and x-ray examination as any other doctor. In addition, they provide a careful chiropractic structural examination, paying particular attention to the spine.
Chiropractic philosophy includes the following perspectives:

§  Holism assumes that health is affected by everything in an individual's environment; some sources also include a spiritual or existential dimension. In contrast, reductionism in chiropractic reduces causes and cures of health problems to a single factor, vertebral subluxation.
§  Conservatism considers the risks of clinical interventions when balancing them against their benefits. It emphasizes noninvasive treatment to minimize risk, and avoids surgery and medication.
§  Homeostasis emphasizes the body's inherent self-healing abilities. Chiropractic's early notion of innate intelligence can be thought of as a metaphor for homeostasis.

The examination of the spine to evaluate structure and function is what makes chiropractic different from other health care procedures. Your spinal column is a series of movable bones which begin at the base of your skull and end in the center of your hips. Thirty-one pairs of spinal nerves extend down the spine from the brain and exit through a series of openings. The nerves leave the spine and form a complicated network which influences every living tissue in your body.

Accidents, falls, stress, tension, overexertion, and countless other factors can result in a displacements or derangements of the spinal column, causing irritation to spinal nerve roots. These irritations are often what cause malfunctions in the human body.
Chiropractic teaches that reducing or eliminating this irritation to spinal nerves can cause your body to operate more efficiently and more comfortably.
Chiropractic also places an emphasis on nutritional and exercise programs, wellness and lifestyle modifications for promoting physical and mental health. While chiropractors make no use of drugs or surgery, Doctors of chiropractic do refer patients for medical care when those interventions are indicated. In fact, chiropractors, medical doctors, physical therapists and other health care professionals now work as partners in occupational health, sports medicine, and a wide variety of other rehabilitation practices.

The Dangers of Eating Processed Meat

 from www.drmercola.net

Think twice about eating breakfast that frequently includes processed meat like bacon and sausage.

Processed meat is any meat preserved by curing, salting, or smoking. It includes bacon, ham, hot dogs, pastrami, salami, sausage, and other lunch meats. Hamburgers may also fall into this category if preserved with salt or chemical additives.

Researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health looked at 20 studies involving more than a million participants from 10 countries. Their findings suggest that eating just 50g of processed meat a day – roughly one sausage or three slices of bacon – was associated with a 42-percent increased risk of coronary heart disease and a 19-percent increased risk of diabetes.

According to an analysis by the World Cancer Research Fund, eating just one sausage a day can significantly increase your risk of bowel cancer, one of the deadliest forms of cancer.

Moreover, processed meats may also:

•    Increase your risk of colon cancer by 50 percent
•    Lower your lung function and increase your risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
•    Increase your risk of bladder cancer by 59 percent
•    Increase your risk of stomach cancer by 38 percent
•    Trigger esophageal , lung, and prostate cancer

How Processing Can Create Carcinogenic Meat

The nitrates added to meat during processing as coloring, flavoring, and preservatives are frequently converted into carcinogenic nitrosamines, Dr. Joseph Mercola explains. This is the main reason why Dr. Mercola recommends avoiding  all processed meats.

Some processed meat labels include MSM or “mechanically separated meats.” According to the U.S. Food and Safety Inspection Service, MSM is a "paste-like and batter-like meat product produced by forcing bones, with attached edible meat, under high pressure through a sieve or similar device to separate the bone from the edible meat tissue.” Back in 2004, all mechanically separated beef was removed from hot dogs and other processed meats because of concerns that it could cause mad cow disease. Mechanically separated pork, chicken, and turkey are still allowed, so beware: “MSM” on the label means return it to the shelf.

Many processed meats also contain other unhealthy additives like high-fructose corn syrup and MSG, which have no place in your diet.

How to Choose Higher Quality, Nutritious Meat

Don’t settle for processed meat because there are healthier options. Here are Dr. Mercola’s guidelines for choosing meat:

•    Choose organic meats that are grass-fed or free-range.
•    Look for “uncured” varieties that contain NO nitrates.
•    Choose products that say “100 percent beef,” “100 percent chicken,” etc. This is the only way to make sure that the meat is from a single species and does not include byproducts like chicken skin or chicken fat.
•    Avoid any meat that contains artificial colors and flavors, high-fructose corn syrup, MSG, or preservatives.
•    Buy your sausages and other processed meats from a small, local farmer who you can ask about the ingredients. These meats are still not ideal as they are processed, but they are better than the majority of commercial processed meats available at the supermarket.

To find out what your healthiest option is for meat, determine your Nutritional Type to discover whether your body responds better when eating red meats like beef, white-meat chicken, dark-meat chicken, or a combination.

Dr. Mercola eats most of his meat raw. He makes sure it comes from a high quality source so that there is virtually no risk of infection. Cooking meat at high temperatures eliminates many beneficial elements of its vitality, and produces toxic heterocyclic amines (HCAs), which are found in any blackened sections of cooked meat and are linked to cancer.

If you can’t eat raw meat, briefly sear the meat on the outside  and leave the remainder of the meat  rare to improve the flavor and decrease your risk of cooking byproducts like HCAs.
